Hips Don't Lie

My hips are letting me know I walked a 5K yesterday, but everything else is as expected or feeling even better than I imagined. I plan an easy 2 mile recovery walk today.

I'll be playing paralegal first. Hubs's files need organized, and I think it will help him, too. I'm trying to put them together like his mind thinks, but I don't want to disturb the order the discovery came in so I'm utilizing sticky notes. I've been putting in about 2 hours a day on legal work, so I've been busy on several fronts lately.

It's Self-Care Sunday! ♥ How are you pampering yourself today? I woke up, took a shower and then I used moisturizing gloves and slippers and a collagen face mask while I meditated. It's a delicious way to start the day! ♥♥

Disco Lemonade

When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade, right? The boat deal fell through so we are back at square one. We'll attempt to sell it for a little while longer, but if we can't make that happen, we'll donate it to Boat Angels. Like disco lemonade.

Today was Swag Day for the races. I got both race packets in the mail this afternoon-both came with a bib. When I was still running races, I kept all of my race bibs pinned to a bulletin board by my treadmill where I wrote my finishing times in pencil. I threw them out when I had to stop running, but maybe I'll do the same with the bibs I get with walking races. The favorite goodie I got was a bracelet from the Run Like A Mother packet--it's blue and has a "Be Bolder" charm on it. It's a great mantra for me.

So, since I have my goodies, I can do the Helen Keller 5K this weekend! I *could* technically do it tonight, but we have plans to watch the symphony on the local PBS channel in an hour. I don't want to do it on the treadmill (though it is an option) because I want to really get a sense of where I am performance-wise in a real race situation. I did 1.5 miles last night with small hills. Back in the day I used to do one distance run, one speed, one hills and one easy each week. I ran nearly every day, but I got the 3 performance building ones out of the way as quickly as I could each week.

Pamper-Me Package Ordered

This week's nailfie. The bass is hubs's friend's guitar, but hubs has been practicing...and I've been considering it. I've never played a stringed instrument before and I'm wildly curious! #BeColorful

Two days in a row where I'm up and alive. That's a record this month! Hopefully a sign of good things to come.

As you can see, I was NOT Posty McPoster yesterday. That might end up being today. I did haul out an additional two bags of trash, but didn't quite fill up that 30-gallon trash can. Better is better though, so I'll take it.

The day got away from me once hubs came home mid-afternoon. I was his paralegal for a couple of hours and then we picked up our elderly friends and met another couple for Italian food. Inside a restaurant, no less! I was the only one in the dinner party not fully vaccinated. My second dose will be May 8th. The food was great and I'm finding more and more that restaurants and bars are carrying ginger beer, which makes me happy. Especially now that I am the full-time designated driver! It's the only soda I drink anymore outside of the Italian cream sodas I've been making for myself at home.

Our New Semblance of Normalcy

Hubs and I about 15 years ago--younger and healthier! (I could actually wear eye makeup back then!!)
Hubs and I about 15 years ago--younger and healthier! (I could actually wear eye makeup back then!!)

Tomorrow marks 5 weeks since hubs had the stroke. I think we've settled into our new norm fairly well. The trip to Kansas City has also been postponed because hubs's schedule is starting to fill up again. As long as I can keep him from overdoing, we'll be okay. The two lingering things for him are his vision and fatigue, which I don't believe he's ever experienced for more than a day or two before. (Welcome to my spoonie world, hubs. =( )

I feel like I will forevermore be the primary driver, although hubs has an appointment to get fitted for lenses to correct his wonky double vision next month. I don't believe he will ever drive at night again unless he has to (I was already starting to be the primary driver at night because he was having issues with night vision, and this new wonkiness will probably make him too uncomfortable to drive after dark), but I do believe we will see a day where he'll be driving back and forth to work and court appearances again. He has asked me to act as paralegal on two of his cases. One of them will require me to do some research tonight because we'll be meeting with the client and a witness tomorrow (criminal case).

He's also asking me to fill out his retirement paperwork for the Illinois pension for IL state university professors. He plans to be retired in six months, though he took on another case this past week, so I'm not sure how serious he is.
