Frosty...is a happy, jolly soul

My eye is definitely feeling better, but still quite angry, so I just have a couple of moments to alleviate some boredom. I also alleviated some cabin fever this afternoon--I picked up my Frosty 5K race packet on the Peoria Riverfront today, which is essentially downtown. Since I was so close to my favorite coffee house and everything is opened up again (albeit with restrictions like social distancing, masks, etc.) I am enjoying my first miel in probably over a year! (I'm in heaven.) After I picked up my coffee, I went to my favorite hippie store and bought some ankle jingles for dance and a pair of comfy hippie pants. Might wear the pants tomorrow during the race. It matches my new navy shirt--it's a long sleeve moisture-wicking tee. One of the nicest race tees I think I've ever gotten (the logo is meh, but cute), and I've been running charity races since the late 1980s.

When I go back to the eye doctor (Feb 8th) I'm going to bite the bullet and get some prescription lenses. I have monovision. Essentially that means I have 20/20 vision when both eyes are used together, but I'm farsighted in one eye and nearsighted in the other. Sadly, it isn't always possible to use both of my eyes together (as evidenced by the past couple of months) and I think eye strain is possibly a component of how horrid this has all been lately.

Making London Broil marinated in Carolina mustard BBQ sauce tonight. Can't wait!

The Santa Cause

Oops, I did it again. Signed up for a race. This time, even during flare, I can handle it...it's just a mile. I'm hoping for 2 miles--one walking for time (benchmarking for 2021) and again, taking my time, for Statue Walk photos.

This is only a mile. It can be a 5k if I want, but since I'm walking, it will be a 2-miler, I think. My feet/legs are holding up decently the past few weeks and now I can be outdoors more with my fugly goggles. I have a week & a half to accomplish this, so if I wake up dreadfully ill, I can do it when I feel better. If nothing else, the pandemic is allowing my wimpy lupus self to participate in more things. The past ten YEARS, I've been waiting to see how I feel THE MORNING OF THE RACE. Which means, I don't get to take advantage of early bird registration or even the normal race fees--I have to pay extra and sometimes I don't get a race tee (not that this is why I have ever raced, but it is nice to have as a memento).

This year’s race will benefit ArtsPartners of Central Illinois and help fund future Sculpture Walks by ArtsPartners. I have been wanting to do the Sculpture Walk, and what better way than to help support it! ArtsPartners has also helped my writers' group out in the past. They gave us free sponsorship and also, because we did not collect membership dues, gave us free booths at their annual Ignite! Peoria events where I got to teach poetry and short story writing to kids and promote the group and all of the NaNoWriMo events we participated in. I know I've retired from all of that, but I love what they do for the creative community in Peoria and I can't forget all that they've done for my group.

One Shimmy at a Time

Tomorrow would have been the annual Shimmy Mob in Bloomington. Sadly, the pandemic has changed the scope of the mission. When I had to stop running, I discovered belly dance, and through my dance sisters, I joined Shimmy Mob, which is an international flash mob to bring awareness of domestic abuse, and to support women's and children's shelters all over the world. We dance for our local charities, so all the money we raise helps women and children in crisis in our own community. I'm still dancing tomorrow and will have some embarrassing video and/or photos of the event to share on social media. The Bloomington-Normal-Peoria group will officially have a flash shimmy mob sometime in September, if we can safely do so.
